Cloth Diapering Terms

I have put together a list of common cloth diapering terms to help keep your head from spinning from all the cloth diapering possibilities out there. Here are some of the most popular cloth diapering systems on the market today:

All-in-One (AIO) Cloth Diapers - This is the easiest cloth diaper to use. they have a cotton or fleece inner layer and leak proof outer cover. They fasten with snaps or velcro. Some of the most common AIO's are bumGenius AIO, DryBee's AIO, and the Thirsties Pocket AIO.
Prefold Cloth Diapers - These are the cloth diapers most people think of when they hear the term "cloth diaper". Prefolds we carry are Chinese DSQ or Diaper Service Quality Chinese Prefolds, these are thought to be the best kind of prefold and used by most cloth diaper services. They are made of 100% cotton gauze that will quilt up making them soft, durable and highly absorbent. These are the most econmical choice for cloth diapering and must be used with a diaper cover.
Diaper cover / wrap - This type of diaper provides the waterproof layer needed to keep your babys clothing dry when using prefolds. Usually made from a waterproof laminate between two layers of a soft polyester knit. Either pulls on or has an aplix closure. These are used with fitted diapers or prefolds. Some of the most common diaper covers and wraps are Thirsties Diaper Cover, Bumkins Vented Diaper Cover, and Bummis Super Whisper Wrap.
Fitted Diaper (Fitteds) - These diapers are fitted with snaps or velcro and must be worn with a diaper cover. Some of the most common fitted diapers are Thirsties Fab Fitted and Kissaluvs Fiited Diaper.
One Size Cloth Diaper - These diapers usually have a snap design on the front of the diaper allowing them to adjust from small to medium and finally to large. These diapers are popular because you only need to purchase them once. They usually close with snaps or velcro and have a soft inner fabric to wick away moisture and waterproof outter lining to keep baby dry. Some of the most common one size diapers are FuzziBunz One Size Cloth Diaper, Happy Heiny's One Size, and the bumGenius 3.0 one size.
Pocket Diaper - Pocket diapers have a waterproof outer barrier that is sewn to an inner moisture-wicking fabric that keeps skin dry. These 2 fabrics form the pocket for an absorbent insert. These diapers usually fasten with snaps or velcro. The most common pocket diapers are the FuzziBunz Perfect Size.
